Branksome Cricket Club was formed in 1977. The Staddon family features heavily in the history of Branksome, with Joe Staddon being the guiding light from their inception and his sons, Adrian and Neil being two of our outstanding players. Dave Boothby and Alan Chapman also figured heavily in the early days. Playing our cricket at Branksome Rec, the team was primarily formed from youth football teams, hence the original name Branksome United.

In 1997 Branksome 1sts, captained by Neil Staddon, won our first B.D.C.A Championship ably supported by some of our emerging youth players. The 2nd team continued to give our youngsters experience in Division 6. 1998 saw us join the Wimborne Evening League, reaching the Campbell Cup Final in 2000. Our team now competes in Division 1. In 1999 the club then decided to enter a team in the DCL Sunday League Division 8, which has now progressed through the leagues and will now start 2006 in Division 2.

Meanwhile in 2000, Branksome had a new captain in the form of Ian Tubbs, as Neil Staddon left to find fame and fortune at Bournemouth CC. Our two Saturday teams continued to play in the B.D.C.A, with varying success, until 2002 when we entered a team in the DCL Division 6. This proved successful winning Divisions 6, 5 and 4 in successive seasons. We now start 2007 in Division 2. The Premier League team played in the B.D.C.A until the merger with the D.C.A in 2004, and will now start 2007 in Division 2.

Joe Staddon relinquished the Chairmanship in 2004 after a 27 year association with the club; we wish Joe and Rosemary all the best for the future. Tony Hardy has the dubious honour of taking the hot seat. Tony would like to thank Bill Daly and Christine Bridle for all their hard work in developing the youth section.

The future looks bright for Branksome CC at our new homes at Wallisdown Recreation Ground on a Saturday and Sunday, while the midweek team will play at Hamworthy Recreation Club, which happens to be one of the finest cricketing venues in Dorset.
